Russell Wilson is the New York Giants clear cut start quarterback and counts first team snaps in organized team activities.
Jordan Larnan of ESPN, targeting the giants, reported Wilson was the obvious QB1 that launched an OTA based on the distribution of reps in Wednesday’s practice.
Wilson is currently one of the team’s four QBs alongside Jameis Winston, Tommy Devito and Rookie Jaxson Dart, and was selected as his 25th overall pick in the recent NFL Draft.
The Giants were one of two teams alongside the Tennessee Titans to select QB in the first round of the draft. Dirt led the Ole Miss Rebels to a season with 10 consecutive wins at university.
The 22-year-old looked to eventually gain a start role and spoke about embracing the leadership role in the team’s rookie minicamp.
But for now, it appears he has a Wilson to overcome in a pecking order that he agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million earlier this year with the Giants.
A 10-time Pro Bowler, Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl in 2014, previously leading passerby ratings (2015) and pass touchdowns (2017).

Who is the starting quarterback for the New York Giants?
If Wilson was the answer to that question, that would be a huge surprise. And they will make stubborn efforts to rock the coaching staff from the dirt in training camp.
Coach Brian Daball has repeatedly said Wilson will bring his first team reps and start the spring as he has, and is expected to serve as the team’s weekly starter.
Wilson only joined the Giants on a one-year contract. That means there’s a good chance he’s not going to use him beyond this season, and he wants to develop his darts behind the scenes before handing over the starting job.
But if New York is struggling to start the season, there is also the possibility that Daboll could aim for the darts to save the Giants’ fortune and make a turnaround.
That can happen quite often as the Giants are currently projected to finish with the worst regular season record in the NFL alongside the Cleveland Browns.
Don’t forget Winston, who agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the Giants in March. Winston took over the Browns’ starter in the seventh week last year after Desshaun Watson tore Achilles.
The 31-year-old caused a Browns offense that failed to reach 20 points in either Watson’s start, causing his team to get involved in victory with the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Needless to say, he throws a franchise record 497 yards that he lost to the Denver Broncos in week 13, so he can step onto the plate if necessary.
