The senator rejected the major Medicaid reform provisions in the GOP’s Megaville (one big beautiful bill law). This is a major setback for Republicans hoping to find billions of dollars in savings from the program.

On June 26, Sen. Elizabeth McDonough discontinued the GOP plan to reduce federal Medicaid costs through the use of the state’s health care provider tax. The proposal was expected to generate hundreds of billions of billions of savings to offset the costs of making business tax cuts permanent, another part of the megabuilding.
