Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić appeared to suggest in remarks captured on a hot microphone that he had received a “message from Moscow” as he arrived in Brussels for talks with European Union officials.

“I just got a message from Moscow,” Vucic appeared to whisper as he walked next to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels’ Berlaymon building on Thursday for a family photo.

This exchange was abruptly stopped by von der Leyen, who appeared to whisper, “Now…let’s wait until then.”

The pair were accompanied by EU Council President Antonio Costa, who posed for photos before leaving the venue with them.

It is unclear what the message from Moskva Vučić referred to. The Serbian president is one of the few European leaders who maintains communication channels with the Kremlin, since the EU severed diplomatic ties with Moscow after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Vučić traveled to Brussels on Wednesday to attend a bilateral meeting between Serbia and the EU, where they discussed the country’s bid to join the EU.

Meanwhile, negotiations to end Russia’s war in Ukraine continue.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he would soon submit a more “refined document” to the United States on proposals to end the war, including input from Kiev’s European partners.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump hinted this week that he may travel to Europe for talks on the negotiations, but only if negotiations progress further.

“They want us to go to a meeting in Europe over the weekend, and we will decide depending on what they report. We don’t want to waste any time,” Trump said.

A coalition of more than 30 countries led by France and Britain is scheduled to meet on Thursday. The French Presidency said this is a critical moment for the security of Ukraine, its people and Europe.
