The game was played easily and is one of my favorite events on the calendar. Kick back after a long day of work and see an incredibly talented speed runner showing off his skills. It has always been a truly heartwarming showcase of what we can do as a community and I am sure this year will not be the same. Summer games were played quickly (SGDQ) 2025 is finally here and everything runs from the Blue Prince Monster Hunter Wild. So it’s time to see it.
The overall point of the summer game is to check in to the live stream whenever I get the chance, but when I look at the schedule myself I can’t wait to see it. This week we’ll end with some great Monster Hunter showcases, but before that there are plenty. On Sunday, July 6th, there will be a percentage of Banjo Kazooie. This should be filled with glorious music and plenty of rolling bears. It only takes about an hour, so it’s the perfect introductory book to the feats you can see in the best PC games throughout the week.
The Metal Gear Solid 3 runs will then take place on Monday, July 7th. If you want to see the stealth skills exhibit and prepare for the impending remaster of Konami, this is where you can do it. I also have plans for the Crush Twin Sanity on the same day, but I’d like to see it broke soon.
Following this, we can expect the Blue Prince to run on Tuesday, July 8th, but that’s not typical. Called “B Quest Bingo,” two runners will face each other when they complete a random list of objectives at the same time. This means seeing two people who know the Roguelike puzzle game more than behind the hand, as they adapt to their goals on the spot.
There will also be a Monster Hunter Wild run later in the week, Saturday, July 12th. You can see both the two player lockout bingo, and the top showcase of four players is impressive. Given how to spend over 30 minutes fighting some of the toughest creatures in the game, I’m extremely excited to see which tools, weapons and strategies will be used to turn them all into absolute pushovers.
Of course, without the Super Mario 64 run, it’s not a GDQ event. This time there will be a 120-star speed run in the game, with one player going to beat the entire SM64 forward. It will take just two hours, but take a look at the technical knowledge on display here.
This year, SGDQ is raising funds for doctors without borders. It is an organization other than humanitarian healthcare that provides international assistance to victims of conflict zones and natural disasters.
The summer games will run from Sunday July 6th to Sunday July 13th, with plenty of speed runs available to watch throughout the week. You can watch the show live on Twitch.
