Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohai Otani has broken records since entering the league, and this week he has earned a record price for his 50th home run ball sales this season.

Shohei Ohtani’s 50/50 hour balls are on record sale

Shohei Ohtani scored his 50th home run against the Miami Marlins on September 19th. The Japanese sensation became the first player in MLB history, scoring 50 home runs and 50 steals in a season.

It was not surprising that his record ball was featured in auction after such an incredible feat, but no one would have guessed how much the sale would make.

Otani’s 50/50 ball sold for a record $4.4 million, making it one of the most expensive sports memorabilia of all time. This sale marked the most expensive baseball officially sold at auction.

Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Online Marketplace Golden, issued a statement following the sale, saying:

“We received bids from all over the world, and this is evidence of the importance of Ohatani’s impact on this iconic collectible and sport. I am excited by the bidders.”

The auction site does not identify the winner of the bid, which is not surprising that the ball holds such high value.

Goldin Auctions said:

Otani will return to action this weekend with the World Series. He is about to win his first championship with the Dodgers since joining the league in 2018.
