I found a lot of fun Split Gate 2 This is the first time since the full launch, which returned in early June. Portal-injected FPS was the perfect game to dive in over and over again for a quick, desperate match. However, it is safe to say that there are problems too. I was hoping that the Developer 1047 game would reveal some sort of roadmap for improvements and a roadmap for the “Game Health” update, but I didn’t expect it to return to beta, but that’s exactly what happens. With the release of Splitgate 2″ early, the free-to-play shooter game will “return to beta” until at least the beginning of 2026.
Despite my personal affinity for Splitgate 2, the big budget free-to-play game has been a significant part of the controversy and has struggled to establish myself as one of the top live care dogs. There was a big wave of interest at first, and it could be one of the best FPS games around. But now, less than two months after it was released in full, following a short spell in the open beta, the number of players seems worryingly low. Of course, there is a huge community of console players, but Steam Peak has a daily player count of around 2,000 mark. It doesn’t mean a complete disaster, but it’s not what you call “health.”
In a very candid post, the 1047 game said, “By sharing our excitement (Splitgate 2) and with you, we bit more than we could bite. We rushed through certain traits and made a mistake with a bone head.
The original Splitgate was primarily lacking in content, but the sequel appears to have been slightly corrected. Splitgate 2 adds a great new competitive arena mode and features a great custom map creator. However, it is also packed into Battle Royale mode, a huge array of all free modes, and a multi-team portal warfare mode that plays on huge maps. It all feels a bit bloated. There was also criticism about the progression and its live service model.
As a result of these complaints, Splitgate 2 will return to beta. “We’ll capture the spirit that made Splitgate special by restructuring key parts of the game until early next year,” says 1047. “That means quickly sharing, like reworking progression from scratch, adding portals to the map, simplifying monetization, and refocusing on the classic game modes you’ve been hoping for.” 1047 remains playable despite the move to beta, and ensures that Chapter 3 of Season 1’s Battle Pass will also ship as planned.
This decision is not without some major casualties and cost-cutting efforts. First, the original splitgate servers are scheduled to be shut down permanently. This happens “in a month,” according to the statement.

The second is that 1047 is undergoing a major restructuring. “Rebuilding the core experience is not an easy fix. It’s a long-term commitment. To give you time to build the right splitgate, we have made the extremely difficult decision to reduce certain roles and shift resources to focus on this rework, in order to get them back as much as possible.”
It will be interesting to see what the second iteration of Splitgate 2 looks like next year. If all this extra effort could actually give you a chance for long-term survival. I sadly recall the split of Spectre, a tactical FPS like bravery that stopped it just six months later. It was also released quite quickly, and despite some major reworks and renewals, I couldn’t stand it. I hope Splitgate 2 will not suffer from the same fate – I really love the gameplay of that arena shooter game and it would be very sad to see it go.
