Star Citizen This is a game that sometimes finds difficult to approach. Huge space MMOs are vast and are often filled with players who have been invested since the first Kickstarter campaign over a decade ago. Certainly, even playable games have been accessing early for seven and a half years. The Squadron 42 is designed as a more accessible counterpart and offers cinematic campaigns that boast a list of names such as Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill and more. It’s currently penciled in for its 2026 launch, but the new job listings are throwing fresh wrinkles.

Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Games currently plays multiple roles in film animation. The list of jobs (for studios in Manchester and Frankfurt) encourages them to join “a team of animators and film designers dedicated to achieving performances of some of the best actors in the industry and linking them to the story of Squadron 42.” Applicants will be responsible for developing scenes with branching options and will repeat focusing on the “deep emotional story” of the single-player game.

In addition to all the standard requirements expected on such a list, the post (see below, Resetera User PSE was discovered) states that Cloud Imperium Games expects those applying for this role to have “special experience in game animation development, ideally the current/next-generation console.”

Of course, it is important to emphasize that this could simply be a general requirement for narrowing down candidates to those who have worked on modern games. But if CIG was considering expanding its reach to a larger audience, Squadron 42 is perhaps some of the Star Citizens that can be considered most on other platforms.

The spinoff space game currently doesn’t have a specific launch date than a statement from CEO Chris Roberts at Citizencon 2025. You can only guess whether a potential console version will affect the PC release window or if it arrives further down the line. Either way, at least that’s a clear indication that Squadron 42 will continue in stages.
