Saber Interactive did an incredible job bringing simulation games to a larger audience with the Runner series. From Mudrunner to Snowrunner and Expeditions: A Mudrunner games in 2017, the studio worked hard to improve realistic vehicle off-roading and transport efforts, with each follow-up offering a significantly improved experience from its predecessor. The most persuasive version of the formula was last month RoadcraftMarry other Sabersim’s attention to detail, with a satisfying construction goal. It appears to have been a hit as the parent company of Publisher Focus Entertainment is calling one of the “most successful releases” to date.
In a review of Roadcraft, Ed calls the simulation game “a compelling argument that even the most esoteric subjects can be translated into compelling video games,” writing that “the conceit of structural mechanics and narratives create a sense of reward you don’t get from the biggest RPGs or even the shooter.”
Obviously, others are impressed with the game too. I saw great player numbers through Steam on the day of release, but RoadCraft seems to be doing well by the publisher’s parent company standards. In its fiscal year-end revenue report earlier today, Focus’ subsidiary Pullup Entertainment Group highlighted “a performance that surpasses expectations by Roadcraft,” calling it “one of the most successful launches in Focus Entertainment’s history, with over 600,000 unique players.”
Pullup CEO Geoffroy Sardin reiterated, noting specifically the “excellent first weeks of roadcraft” marking “one of the best launches in Focus Entertainment history.”
