The project was established as a collaboration between Korea and Thailand and is produced by Louis Tae Wang Kim through photographs of Seoul-based Banner Lewis. Solaire Partners of Korea, a subsidiary of K Wave Media, is one of the investors, and Thailand’s GDH 559 is engaged as a co-production partner.
The story focuses on married Korean men traveling to Thailand on business trips. He falls for a mysterious Thai woman and knows that their encounter will cause him to fall into an unimaginable nightmare.
Banjong is working with a team of Korean and Thai writers in the scripting stage. It is a contemporary effort by Nantani, a female Thai spirit that is said to haunt wild banana trees. The story features Korean and Thai characters.
“I wanted to adapt the Nantani legend for a long time, but I couldn’t find the right angle until I imagined the Korean character getting into the story,” says Bang Jung. “That shift opened up a new perspective and allowed me to reinterpret folklore in ways I think have never been done before.”
Previous Horror Movies by Bangjong Media Co-produced by GDH and Korean filmmaker Na Hong-Jin, it achieved a huge box office success in Korea and Asia in 2021. this Marks a second collaboration with the territory.
