Recently, there are quite a few ambitious multiplayer space sandboxes, offering huge systems, galaxies, or even universes for players to mark. Eve will be online along with Star Citizen or Norman Sky, among others. But I’m not satisfied with just one large space game, and the developer’s CCP game is turning yet another Eve experience. Eve Frontier. Access to the frontier in its current Alpha state is usually locked behind the paid founder pack. However, you can try it completely freely for the next 10 days.

Eve Frontier boasts a huge, enduring universe of systems of thousands of stars. Not only are the freedom to explore wherever you want, but also the freedom to set up your own currency, partnerships, political wings, bases, stargates, trading systems, services, and even your own currency. Huge space battles can break out, and the star system can range from unexplored opportunities to established community commerce hubs, to hostile territory managed by player factions who are not happy to challenge the lawn. It is becoming an MMO with epic proportions.

But it sparked skepticism as the use of blockchain technology to maintain and track all the evolution that it passes through, and as a way for players to exchange goods and services with each other. Many gamers are naturally wary of projects using this technology due to the amount of predatory (or straight-up) NFT-packed games that have emerged in recent years. CCP says that Eve Frontier is not the first blockchain game, not a really fun MMO second, but a suitable technology to use for the evolving universe and many aspects of it that players can control.

Eve Frontier is still in its early stages and just launched at Alpha State, which closed in December 2024, but once fully prepared in a few years, it will be released as a free PC game with an optional subscription.

As mentioned before, accessing the current early version of the game typically requires purchasing a founder pack. However, for a limited time, you can jump in and start exploring without using one dime.

The Eve Frontier free trial is currently live and runs until Monday, April 21st. All you need to do is sign up to enter your account. Or, if you already have it, you can simply jump straight in.

If it’s not already on sale at Eve Frontier, you’ll need to check out these incredible space games instead. Alternatively, in the upcoming PC Game Guide, take a look at all the big titles that will drop into the near (and far) future.
