When I heard that a small group of previous Call of Duty, Halo, Destiny and Apex Legends had gathered to create a new game, my thoughts quickly rushed to the project, with a shooter with fast abilities set on a distant future planet. That’s what I didn’t think it would be contractthis is essentially Dark Souls as an FPS game. Of course, it’s a bit reductive, but that’s the pitch of the elevator. Thanks to its appearance on the Galaxies Showcase, we’re just looking at the deal fresh.

Doom the Dark Ages will soon give FPS gaming fans dark fantasy fixes. If the opinions expressed in my preview are still true at launch, then it must be an act of the class. Pain pillers from my beloved boomer shooter game are also back, offering a similar experience later this year. The Covenant is the third horse in this race, offering punchy and brutal combat in Gothic air environments.

As mentioned before, developer Legion Studio is full of FPS experience, as proven with Covenant’s huge machine guns, bows and crossbows. However, as introduced in this new trailer, there are plenty of brawl options (even in the first person) to keep that soul-like feeling alive. You can see the proper duals with Longswords down. Some of them look like giant stag horns reused in club and bow combos. This allows enemies to strike the sky and fire arrows into the air. It can guide the inner Thor and throw a hammer that collides with the enemy, creating shock waves and satisfying lumps. Doom fans are pleased that the chainsaw weapons are in some form too.

Elsewhere, environmental objects are used, such as the moment the pot is bounced into the air and the karate is kicked towards the enemy. The movement of the legs to be wiped out is also shown, allowing enemies to be knocked to the floor. Movement and shelter seem very quick and dynamic, for something inspired by something like souls.

All this means there is a wealth of potential for contract combat. This new look of the game was just as impressive as it was its obvious trailer when it came to the aesthetics of the game. The weapons, enemy types, bosses, and environments all look appropriately harsh and regal, just like the fallen soul series and the lords.

Sadly, one thing I really wanted to see was the demo and release date news, but for now, the Covenant is still on the “Check out this dope trailer and Wishlist me” stage. I think Doom The Dark Ages and Painkiller will be able to live with it for now in the next few months.
