Investigation of the tragic collision of the Air India Flight AI171, which occurred shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, revealed a sad and troublesome new discovery. The spare data shows that both engines have lost thrust as the fuel control switch is manually turned off immediately after departure.
Such simultaneous shutdown of fuel supply to both engines is rarely contingent given the safety mechanism in place. Thus, investigators began to focus on intentional actions in the cockpit as the cause of the crash.
We are also focusing on the pilot’s mental health. Reports show that he suffered from depression for the months leading up to the accident, including dealing with his recent mother’s death. Authorities are reviewing his medical records and psychological conditions to determine whether his condition contributed to the event.
The pilot union and aviation authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that it has not yet reached conclusions, although new evidence suggests that it encourages serious questions about mental health surveillance and cockpit safety protocols. The tragedy, which lost 278 lives, has strengthened the call for a thorough investigation of pilot welfare and airline safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The complete research report is expected to provide more definitive responses in the coming months.
