Empire Age 2 It’s eternal. It remains one of the basic pillars that hold PC games in Aloft, like Half Life, Fallout, Doom, and Deus Ex. Originally released in 1999, one of the best AOE games in history and one of the best RTS games of all time, has been strong quarter-century later. It always looked great, but the definitive edition makes it even brighter. With regular tweaks, upgrades, enhancements and new material, the revised version of Age of Empires 2 continues to be a complete homage to the gaming legacy, and by now somehow it’s grown. AOE 2: The biggest update in the history of Definitive Edition has arrived. More civilizations and campaigns have been carried out courtesy of the new DLC.
Officially designated “141935”, the New Age of Empires 2 update is “largest ever” by enrolling a group of RTS game developers. The Hybrid Age DE team previewed the update in March. At the time, I copied and pasted the full patch notes into the document, consisting of over 7,000 words. In time for the release of 141935, the developers of AOE 2, who are not satisfied with its mammoth overhaul, have added more changes, enhancements and fresh ingredients.
It’s enough to create an entirely new strategy game here, but to bring out some highlights, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition offers a new map. New visual designs for the castle, elite unique units, monks and monasteries were introduced. AI pathfinding has been improved. The high-tech tree UI has been overhauled. The balance has been changed throughout the game. There are also a number of bug fixes based on player feedback. The patch notes feel like a complete, inter-room home transformation.
Still, there are many more. The three kingdoms, the New Age of Empire 2 DLC Pack, arrives on Tuesday, May 6th. This includes five new civilizations, three more campaigns, and several additional units, including the Armored Knights and the Ultra Lethal Dragon Ship.
