‘1v1 me bro’ – A sentence that oozes out of overconfidence and bravery. It used to be a way to solve things with your friends, but now The Legend of the Pillar It utilizes the essence of this ancient FPS tradition. As part of the revived arena experience, the latest updates in the game will offer a new spin with Duel, a 30-player mini-tournament that aims to win as many 1V1s as possible.
Apex Legends Season 25 has seen the Arena win return. This is an amazing round-based mode that was once a permanent fixture in the game, but it was removed over two years ago. If reflected, the arena will not be in vertex core mode. Although there was always a need for an alternative mode rotation to keep things fresh, it is one of the best battle royale games at the end of the day, and the last team experience that people are most drawn to. However, the arena didn’t deserve to be left on the shelves for two years. I missed it and I’m glad it’s back in limited time.
However, it has been converted as part of today’s update and as the start of a new future icon event. Arenas Duels brings Apex Legends back to the bones of FPS and encapsulates the purity of a 1v1 shootout, but it does so in a way that sees you still compete with dozens of other players. A lobby of 30 players is formed and thrown into several 1V1 matchups with random opponents over five minutes. The goal is for the leaderboard to keep track of the number of top players, winning as many matchups as possible in as five minutes as possible.
This is also a mode in which gunplay, timing, and movement are key to success. Here, the legendary meta and weapon meta are redundant. No character abilities, no healing items, or anything that can be thrown, just a randomized loadout of two weapons. that’s it.
When I first heard that the Arena 1V1 spinoff was coming to Season 25, I was a bit confused about how it would be implemented. But this mixture of rapidly spinning matchups, leaderboards to keep things competitive, and purer FPS experiences is the perfect way to make it happen. The only thing I (and many others) have been questioning is the decision to highlight the opponent’s outline while I freeze for the first few seconds and wait for the round to begin. Either a design or a bug, this “wall hack” also lasts for a few seconds after the round begins, allowing both players to fully read each other’s first moves. Remove (or fix) it and the psychological battle about where the player moves and peaks first increases considerably.
Apex Legends’ Arenas Deals Mode is currently live, but only until Tuesday, July 15th. The Future Icons event, featuring new event passes and reward tracks, is also live today, along with some balanced updates that have an impact on legends like Ash, Vantage, and Wattson. You can see the full patch notes for the new update here.
