Baldur’s Gate 3 is wrapped up, and there are no signs like the Xcom 3 yet. I’ve always been focusing on the next turn-based game. Claire’s Unclear Expedition 33 set a high bar in 2025, but I’m very interested in Arthur’s adventures The legend of the round table. Bluffing in stunning visuals that bring a blend of storytelling, decision-making, and team fights and appear to jump straight up from the tapestry, this upcoming game from Artifice Studio has a new Steam demo that you can try today.
The legend of the Roundtable follows King Arthur Knight in the turn-based RPG Tale of turn-based RPGs of Honor, Magic and Romance. This means choosing the right person to sit at the table, with IS Lancelot, Sir Gawain, Sir Percival and dozens of other iconic names. Each brings a unique set of traits, strengths, weaknesses and social preferences. This means that you need to consider which knights are suitable for the job on each turn and make sure you coagulate and choose an adventurer.
These missions take a look at various nonlinear stories with multiple branching paths. Of course, violence is an option, but it puts the best fighters at risk. Instead, you can use your words, your coin wallet, or even your knowledge of the Bible and mysticism. These are frequently presented as challenges that require matching the appropriate skills of the party to reach a total total sufficient to pass the check.
The art hides it a bit, but the round table turn-based combat legend is essentially done on a hex grid. Show mercy to your surrender enemy. If you do so, your knights will earn you a potential ransom payment and a reputation for their honor. However, decisions must be measured carefully. Artifice warns that “every battle is important and losses are permanent.”
At any time, you have the option to pull from the deck of cards to affect your current situation. These can help you turn the tide of tough situations by recuperating fatigue, offering bonus stats to swing persuasive rolls, or casting powerful spells, but if you think you can scrape while rubbing without using them, you might want to grab them later.
It brings it all together by a beautiful presentation from Artifice Studio. The environment in Regends of the Round Table is hand-drawn by “experts who remain faithful to the tools, dyes and colors available to the era, following authentic medieval painting techniques.” This is complemented by scores played on instruments suitable for traditional periods such as Lute, Harps, and Viols. I was a huge fan of Obsidian’s Pentiment in 2022, so I’m very happy to see more games that adopt this style.
The Roundtable Legend Demo is available on Steam. You can download it for free. Find it here and if you want to stay up to date when the release date is announced, find it along with a link to make the full game a wish list.
