The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 4-14) won seven world premieres, one international premiere and two Canadian debuts in the Midnight Madness Section.
It’s in the world premiere usuallyUK director Ben Wheatley’s crime thriller (winner of the 2016 Midnight Madness People’s Choice Awards) Free fire), and Bob Odenkirk is appearing. Dust BunnyReunite with his star in the whimsical horror thriller marking the directorial debut of our television showrunner Brian Fuller Hannibal Series Mads Mikkelsen.
Their global debut will also be the Hong Kong martial arts thriller of Tanigaki. Farrgh, ObsessionMulti-hyphenate curry barker from the US, Serbian horror thriller of Alexander Rajvoyvich Karmadonna.
The international premiere of the section is Takahide Hori’s Japanese stop motion feature Junk World.
The opening night slot in the section will offer a Canadian premiere to Matt Johnson’s Toronto Set Time Travel Story Nirvanna is a movie showHe won the Midnighter Audience Award at this year’s SXSW.
Close the section is the Canadian premiere Dead loverA horror comedy by Grace Glowicki, premiering in Sundance and winning the Neon Auteur Award at SXSW.
It takes place every night at Tiff just before midnight. Lead programmer Peter Kuplowsky describes this section as “the wildside of the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s where the strangest, strangest, best genre films and future cult films emerge.”
