With the MLB season going well, I decided to see the best paid players in Major League Baseball.
10. Anthony Rendon (Los Angeles Angels) – $35,000,000
The name of this list is Los Angeles Angels star Anthony Rendon, who signed an astronomical contract with the MLB franchise prior to the 2020 season.
In March 2025, the 34-year-old signed a seven-year contract in Los Angeles, which was worth $245 million, bringing it to $35 million a year.
The deal has been plagued by the Los Angeles Angels as Rendon suffers from multiple injuries and is planning to miss a large part of this 2025 campaign.
9. Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) – $35,541,667
Secondly, there’s another lost Angeles Angels star, as Mike Trout is the ninth-highest paid player in major league baseball.
In 2019, the Angels agreed to a 12-year contract worth $426.5 million, including a $20 million signature bonus, with an average annual salary of $3554 million.
Again, the 33-year-old also suffers from injuries, and links it to a deal away from LA, which has been called a poor choice by the Los Angeles franchise.
8. GerritCole (New York Yankees) – $36,000,000
The number one pick in the 2011 draft signed a new contract with the New York Yankees in 2019 after an impressive run as a pitcher.
The deal was worth $324 million over nine years, and averaged $36 million a year, making it the eighth highest salary player in MLB.
Cole will be without a contract in 2028, but at that point he will push 38 and the six-time All-Star may not be able to compete at the current level.
7. BlakeSnell (Los Angeles Dodgers) – $36,400,000
At the end of 2024, Blakesnell signed a huge contract as a free agent for the World Series champion, but is now injured.
Snell signed a five-year contract worth $182 million, averaging $36.4 million a year, solidifying his position as MLB’s seventh-highest salary player.
6. Jacob DeGrom (Texas Rangers) – $37,000,000
On the list is Jacob DeGrom, who joined the New York Mets’ Texas Rangers ahead of the 2023 season.
His contract took place between 2023 and 2027 and is worth $185 million, which on average will be categorized as $37 million per year, increasing to $40 million over the coming months.
The 36-year-old has been in great shape over the last few months, but has struggled to feature in the All-Star team since 2021.
5. Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) – $40,000,000
The fifth-highest paid player in the league is Aaron Judge, an outfielder for the New York Yankees, one of MLB’s biggest names.
In 2023, the judge signed a nine-year contract with the Yankees, worth $360 million and worked for an average salary of $40 million.
His deal is interesting as the judge covered his back in negotiations.
4. Alex Bregman (Boston Red Sox) – $40,000,000
It was one of the shortest recent deals in February 2024 as Alex Bregman signed a three-year contract worth $120 million or $40 million a year.
The 31-year-old is a two-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion and Golden Globe winner, and holds many records in MLB.
3. Zach Wheeler (Philadelphia Phillies) – $42,000,000
The third-highest paid player in MLB, third-highest, is Philadelphia Phillies star Zach Wheeler, who also signed a short deal.
In March 2024, the Americans agreed to a three-year extension with the Phillies. The Phillies are worth the $126 million or $42 million that became active in early 2025.
The 34-year-old won the coveted Golden Globe in 2023, being a two-time All-Star and featured in last year’s edition.
2. Juan Soto (New York Mets) – $51,000,000
Currently there is New York Mets superstar Juan Soto, who joined the Big Boys, placed second and signed an unwavering contract in December 2024.
Juan Soto has signed a 15-year contract with the New York Mets. This is worth $765 million overall, about $51 million a year.
The Dominican outfielder’s contract sets the new record for the longest contract in MLB history. This could have been broken by Soto in 2022, but it turned down a $440 million 15-year contract with Washingtonians.
1. Shoheiohtani (Los Angeles Dodgers) – $70,000,000
This title is held by Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei ohtani, and is therefore the highest paid player in MLB, and it’s not surprising.
In December 2023, Otani signed a 10-year deal with the Dodgers, the largest contract in professional sports, worth $700 million, ahead of Soto’s deal a year later.
His dealings are made up of a unique way. This is because $68 million per year will be postponed until the end of the contract execution and will be paid between 2034 and 2043.
