Transgender self-discovery documentary ‘Niñxs’ acquired for sales

Exclusive: Portugal-based sales company Utopia Dokkyun has won the global rights to Crab Lapuerta’s feature debut Niñxs.

The film debuted last month in an international feature competition at Visions Du Reel. And I’ll play at Journeys Strand at Sheffield Dockfest next month.

Set in the Mexican town of Tepottran, Niñxs She continues with Cara, a 15-year-old transgender girl, on a journey of self-discovery, navigating adolescence and social gender bias.

The film is produced by Surei Capineda from Landia Digital in Mexico, Martha Orozco from Mart Films in Mexico, and Anke Petersen and Joe Beard in German Sparrows on the Rooftop.

“Through my experience as an activist and visible trans person, I have been in touch with many times and become a documentary character on the subject,” said Rapuerta. “I was tired of standing in front of the camera because I’m always trans, but cisgender people talked about our lives. I decided to get my tools back and start telling the stories of our community.”
