Irish filmmaker Brendan Canty debut feature Christie On June 13th, the 24th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) in Cluj-napoca, Romania will be opened.
The age class made a world premiere in the Generation 14plus section of Berlin, winning the section’s Grand Prix for the best films.
The film launches Teen Spirit, Tiff’s new competitive section dedicated to exploring youth culture through fiction and documentary films, and is decided by a ju-described ju-dean of local teenagers aged 16-20.
Screening of Christie Unirii Square at Cluj-Napoca will present an outstanding award presentation to the legendary Romanian film, television and theatre actor Florin Piersic.
Films already confirmed in Tiff’s 2024 program include the Dag Johan Haugerud trilogy love, Sex Golden Bear Winner Dream (sex love)Mike Lee The difficult truthtwo winners from last year’s Venice Orizonty Sidebar – Sarafriedland’s debut The familiar touch and Scandar Copti’s happy holidays, When the light breaks Iceland’s Lunar Lunarson, and Berlin competition titles dream By Michel Franco.
The lineup also includes the Arantxa Echevarria thriller SurfaceZijimadol wave, Last year he won the Audience Award at Carlovy. Emmanuel Courcolls Marching band, Alireza Katami’s thriller What you kill It premiered at Sundance.
Pitch stop project lineup
The 12th edition of TIFF’s international co-production platform, Transilvania Pitch Stop (TPS), currently unveils 10 projects during the development and funding phase, from the first and second directors to producers, distributors, sales agents and film fund audiences.
This year’s selection includes four projects from Romanian filmmakers.
Includes Lucia Chico’s debut fiction feature Horseshoeproduced by Velvet Moral icon productions, based on a script by Lavinia Branite. This centers around a 40-year-old primary school teacher who accidentally became pregnant and found her decision to have a baby to be more complicated than she thought.
It is selected At King’s Gatedebut feature by the husband and wife team of screenwriter critic Ilin Straton and director Eugene Dediu. Producer Marian Crisan ( Warboy and campaign)through his production company Rova Film.
The TPS lineup also works Under the crescent moonthe documentary debut of Georgian-American filmmaker George Todoria and Hungarian filmmaker Lili Laura Tous. MagdaIt is said to be “a story about a magically mystical girl during the war, both her emotions and her environment.”
The TPS co-production platform, held from June 19-20, is one of six sections of the Ro Days Industry Platform, coordinated by former producer Adrian Bîlæ, who took over Dumitrana Lupu as industry head earlier this year.
Other sections are Full Moon Creative Lab, Trans Livania Talent Lab, Drama Room, 10 for 10 movies, and closed sleeping programs aimed at international festival programmers, sales agents and distributors.
