True Colours acquires Tudor Cristian Jurgiu’s Berlinale title ‘On Our Own’

Exclusive: Italy’s True Colors has embarked on international sales. by ourselves (by our heads), the latest feature film from Romanian Tudor filmmaker Cristian Jurju, will have its world premiere in the Forum section of the Berlinale next month.

The Romanian-Italian co-production tells the story of Flavia, a bright and independent 14-year-old who lives alone after her parents leave for Italy. When she learns they are divorcing, her precarious balance begins to shift. She finds comfort in her friendships and forms a surrogate family, but when her friends leave, Flavia confronts the limits of her longing and the emotional void left by her parents’ absence.

Inspired by the 150,000 Romanian children whose parents live abroad, by ourselves It explores adolescence, resilience, and the tension between the longing for connection and the fear of its loss.

The film was produced by Tudor Giorgi and Bogdan Craciun for Libra Film, co-produced with Indica’s Simone Catania and Francesca Portalupi, with support from Eurimage, Media, CNC, TVR, MIC and the Emilia-Romagna region.
