The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Monday it had ended its protections for illegal immigrants from Nicaragua and Honduras just days after a similar announcement in Venezuela.

In a statement, the DHS said Nicaragua’s temporary protected status (TPS) was “not intended to last for 25 years,” and that the state that affected the Central American country was launched after the 1999 natural disaster.
