Trump Envoy Says Putin Agreed to US, Europe Offering NATO-Style Security Assurances for Ukraine

US President Steve Witkov, a special envoy to President Donald Trump, said on August 17 that Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed us and our European allies to grant security protections similar to NATO’s collective defense mandate as part of an impending deal to end the war.

“We were able to win the next concession: the United States can provide protection like Article 5. This is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be NATO,” Witkov said on CNN’s “All Powers.”
