Trump Needs Congressional Approval for Iran Strikes, Jeffries Says

House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) warned President Donald Trump on Friday to not take offensive military action against Iran without explicit permission from Congress, in fostering debate over US involvement in the Middle East.

“The authority to declare war belongs to the US Congress alone,” Jeffries said in a June 20 statement. “President Trump and his administration must refrain from engaging in offensive military operations in Iran without the express approval of the House and Senate.”
