President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Voldimia Zelensky called on July 4 to discuss efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses amid rampant rampsing Russia’s attacks, according to a Ukrainian statement that described as “very important and fruitful.”

In a statement on social media, Zelenskyy said that the two leaders agreed to cooperate in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and planned a meeting with the US and Ukrainian teams to pursue further cooperation. The call followed the night of heavy Russian drones and missiles, and Kiev said it included a record 539 drones and 11 missiles.

“Leaders have discussed additional practical enhancements to air defense, agreeing to increase protections in Ukraine’s air and to hold a corresponding meeting between the Ukrainian team and the US team in the near future,” Zelenskyy’s office said in a statement.
