Ukrainian Security Services (SBU) announced on Friday that it had revealed the Hungarian military intelligence network for the first time in Ukrainian history.

The SBU reported that it has identified and neutralised the agent network associated with Hungary’s military intelligence.

“This is the first case in the country’s modern history when the espionage of foreign intelligence reporting agencies to the disadvantages of Ukraine’s security from the EU state has been officially recorded,” the SBU said in a statement on Telegram.

Two people, allegedly part of the intelligence network, are in custody.

One of them was a 40-year-old ex-service member who was hired in 2021 from Zakarpathia’s Belegibsky district, near the Hungary border.

SBU says in September 2024 he began following the instructions of Handler, a career officer at Hungary’s Military Intelligence Reporting Agency.

Agents gathered information about the Ukrainian forces in the region, recorded the coordinates of the anti-aircraft system, and tried to find details of the defense system.

Additionally, he was said to have been interested in the availability of weapons on the black market and was planning to recruit new informants to expand the agent network.

According to an investigation by the SBU, he crossed the border to Hungary using a certificate of care indicating that his father needed treatment abroad.

At a personal meeting in Hungary, the agent received money and special equipment from his handlers. This is a mobile phone with an encrypted communication channel. He then continued to send data, including information on the official security forces movement and transport, as well as losses for the Ukrainian army.

The second detainee is a former service woman for the Ukrainian Defence Force, and according to the SBU, she sent information about her previous unit’s aircraft fleet and defense systems to foreign intelligence agency.

The SBU said the suspect was detained in his residence and calls and other evidence were seized during the search.

SBU is releasing the video for The Revelation on YouTube. The video is Ukrainian, but after three minutes the accused can hear him speak Hungarian.
