Universal is planning to build a major new theme park in the UK, Prime Minister Kiel Starmer confirmed.
The studio’s first theme park in Europe will be built near Bedford and is scheduled to open in 2031.
In a statement, the government said: “In a move to represent a major vote of confidence in the future of the UK economy and the UK-US partnership, a multi-billion pound investment has been agreed between Universal, government and local councils in Bedford’s major new universal theme parks and resorts.”
The statement added that the project “creates 20,000 jobs during the construction period and an additional 8,000 new jobs when the hospitality and creative industries open.”
The park is part of a 476-acre entertainment resort complex and will provide a “£5 billion boost to the economy,” the government added.
The studio behind movies such as evil, minion and Jurassic World There are also parks in the US, Japan, Singapore and China.
