On Friday, the Treasury Department designated Venezuelan Cartel Delos Sales, known in English as the Sands cartel, as a specially designated global terrorist (SDGT) entity, leading President Nicolas Maduro and the group, and denounced senior members of his administration for supporting major drug cartels that threaten the national security of the United States.
The designation issued by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) under counterterrorism authorities on July 25th blocks all property and profits of groups within their jurisdiction, and generally prohibits Americans from engaging in transactions with it.
