Studio Ulster, a 75,000-square-foot virtual production facility, has opened its doors in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The studio is designed to support productions at all scales, from blockbuster films and high-end television to AAA game development and animation. It integrates real-time engines, in-camera visual effects, volume capture and motion tracking, and is reported to be the most important motion capture stage in Europe.

This is the result of a £72 million investment developed in partnership with Belfast Harbor and partially funded through a Belfast Regional City Agreement backed by the Northern Ireland screen.

Studio Ulster also has the Costar Screen Lab. This is one of five national labs created under the UK-wide Costar initiative. The goal is to place facilities on screens and creative technology at the forefront of global R&D.

“Studio Ulster is a real game changer, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on screen, allowing directors to realize their imaginary world here at Belfast Harbor.”
