What did R. Kelly do?

Most of Kelly’s accusations date back to the early 1990s, but leaked records of alleged sexual encounters with minors did not surface until 2002. Records showed Kelly, a minor at the time, and an unidentified teenager. He pleaded not guilty after he was charged with child pornography. His trial began in 2008, and Kelly was acquitted.

Over the next decade, multiple women moved forward with surprising accusations against the former singer-songwriter. In 2019, Kelly was charged with aggravated sexual abuse of 10 counts. He denied all charges against him, and his legal team entered into a plea of innocence. Nevertheless, he was charged that year by the Federal University Ju Tribunal with charges that included child pornography, seduction of minors and obstruction of justice, according to the Associated Press.

Kelly’s federal trial began in New York in 2021. He was convicted of violating Mann’s law. This is an anti-sex trafficking law that prohibits anyone from taking someone across state lines “for immoral purposes,” according to the outlet.

R. Kelly’s prison sentence

In 2022, Kelly was sentenced 30 years later at a New York bar. Later that year, a Chicago ju-decision convicted him of three child porn counts and the seduction of three children. However, the ju judge found him not guilty of: It’s the fourth porn count, a conspiracy to block justice charges related to the 2008 trial, three counts of conspiring to receive child pornography, and two additional charges of seduction.

In 2023, a federal Chicago judge sentenced Kelly to 20 years in prison for seduction of child pornography and mild accusations. He was reportedly ordered to serve prison time for everyone except one of them at the same time as his another 30-year prison sentence for assault and sex trafficking conviction in New York. In 2024, the Chicago Court of Appeals upheld his 20-year prison sentence for his child-belief.
