The NHL playoffs are on track, with each franchise trying to clinch the iconic Stanley Cup, which team won the most?

Which NHL team won the Stanley Cup the most?

Top 5 Stanley Cup winners

1. Montreal Canadian – twenty four

The first to come in with the first 24 Stanley Cup victory is the Montreal Canadiens, who hold the record of most consecutive victory.

Despite this advantage in terms of title, the Canadian has not won the biggest award in ice hockey since 1993 and made its last appearance in the 2021 final.

While the specific reasons for their downfall are difficult to identify, many have placed poor performances on bad recruitment, flawed tactics, and the impossible task of living a name from a team in the past.

This season, the Canadiens faced the Washington Capitals as they finished in the Eastern Conference playoff place with dental skin.

Montreal failed to deliver at key points, experienced four losses and was eliminated after five games after winning one win along the way.

2. Toronto Maple Leafs – 13

Next on the list is another Canadian franchise as the Toronto Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cup titles throughout history but have not won the trophy since 1967.

The Maple Leafs also held an unfortunate record, lost the most consecutive finals (3), achieving this feat between 1938 and 1940.

Regardless of the outcome, appearances in the Stanley Cup finals have been well received by Maple Leafs fans, as their 1967 victory was their final appearance in the final match.

Since 2017, the Canadian franchise has appeared in the playoffs and lost in the opening game from 2017 to 2022 before reaching the conference semi-finals in 2023.

Again they were eliminated in the 2024 opening playoff round, but in 2025 they passed the first stage, beating Ottawa Senators 4-2.

3. Detroit Red Wings – 11

Just behind the Toronto Maple Leafs are the Detroit Red Wings, who have accumulated 11 Stanley Cup titles since the competition began in 1927.

Their most recent victory in the final NHL encounter came in 2008 as they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 in 2008, then lost 4-3 against the same franchise a year later.

This defeat in 2009 was the last time the Red Wings appeared in the final series, and in recent years they weren’t friendly to the franchise and have not been able to reach the playoffs since 2016.

In fact, the Red Wings’ performance in the playoffs is so poor that they passed their first stage in 2013, highlighting their monumental downfall.

4. The Boston Bruins – 6

The Boston Bruins were able to win six Stanley Cup titles in 2011, with their recent victory from the top four teams after beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-3.

In 1929, the Bruins won their first Stanley Cup, then their second year in 1939, then did the same again in 1941, won the trophies in 1970 and 1972, and ended the 39 drought in 2011.

The 2025 season was a very disappointing time for the Boston-based franchise as it was unable to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and held a poor record of 33-39-10.

They finished 15 of the 16 Eastern Conference teams, scoring the smallest goals in the entire EC, accumulating just 222 and admitting 272.

5. Chicago Blackhawks – 6

Finally, there is the Chicago Blackhawks, who looked like the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup on six separate occasions. He won the title in 2015.

Between 2010 and 2015, the Blackhawks won three glorious trophies, but their 2015 victory was the last time the Blackhawks reached the final stage.

In fact, since 2018, the Chicago NHL franchise has only made its appearance in the playoffs once (2020) and was beaten in the opening round by the Vegas Golden Knights.

Like the Bruins, the Blackhawks struggled in front of goals during the 2025 season, scoring just 226 times and conceding the second-highest goal in the NHL with 296.
